January 2016 President Message

January 20, 2016
Welcome CREW Northern Virginia members and join me in celebrating our 30th Anniversary!  This year will be filled with endless opportunities for YOU to get the most value out of your CREW membership.

Here are some immediate ways you can get plugged in:

Join a committee – I encourage you to join one of our six committees and develop deeper relationships in CREW NoVA. We need your time, talents and great ideas to be successful.

Become a sponsor – position your company as a leader in diversity and the advancement of women in commercial real estate, and receive year round exposure to more than 1,000 industry professionals in the region.

Bring a friend – invite a colleague or friend to join you at CREW NoVA and help grow our chapter and expand our reach in the Northern Virginia region.

Utilize ‘the Network’ – exclusive industry research and white papers, online training, leadership summits, and conventions, are just a few advantages of being a CREW member.

Become our next leader – get to know us so we can get to know you! The stepping stones to leadership are waiting for you.

A NEW LOOK
With a 30th anniversary comes a new logo and a fresh look. Kudos to our communications team, led by Director of Communications, Miriam Brodie with Kimley-Horn, on the redesign of our chapter logo, program flyers, brochures, and coming soon…a NEW WEBSITE! We’re just a few weeks away from the big reveal so stay tuned!

CREW NoVA EVENTS
CREW Northern Virginia delivers content-rich programs that are informative and promote member-to-member business. Registration is open for the following programs:

On January 19 we will kick off the year with our annual CNCC State of the Regional Commercial Real Estate Market and Economic Forecast at the Westin Arlington Gateway.  I think you’ll really enjoy the energetic and interactive style of keynote speaker—Spencer Levy with CBRE. Bring your business cards and come ready to network with the experts as you learn about commercial real estate development trends in our region.

I’m so excited about ourMember Fair on January 26 at Tysons Dulles Plaza! This is a first for our chapter. Come meet the 2016 CREW Northern Virginia Board of Directors; hear about our goals and vision for the year; join one of our six committees; learn about the benefits and exposure received by being a valued chapter sponsor; and get a professional headshot to add to your CREWbiz™ profile! Oh, and did I mention? We’re giving away a Kate Spade handbag to one lucky winner!

On February 13 we give back to the families at Shelter House with our Community Action (CAC) Valentine’s Day Volunteer Event. Shelter House is just one of the 6 community service organizations supported by this chapter. They provide crisis intervention, safe housing, and supportive services for homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax County. We will be providing Valentine’s Day cupcakes, making cards and crafts, and other various activities.

February 23 kicks off our mentorship season with a Women In The Workplace Panel at Clyde’s of Tysons Corner and hosted by Joan Fletcher, president of Winning Ways, Inc. We love Joan and know you will too as you hear her summarize last year’s Mentorship Program--Connecting Future Leaders--with a special panel of past mentors and proteges. You won’t want to miss this compelling program.

In addition to the events above, stay tuned for more information being released soon about our 30th Anniversary celebration event in September.

Plan now to attend the 2016 CREW Network Annual Convention on October 19-22 in New York City! We are looking into the possibility of running a bus (or two) to and from Convention. Please look for the email when registration opens and sign up early. This will be a great way for you to experience a national event and the professional development and networking opportunities available through CREW Network.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING
CREW members appreciate a good challenge, right? This fact is more than validated by your amazing support of the CREW Network Foundation through its Chapter Challenge program. By focusing efforts to increase awareness of the Foundation’s powerful reach, members—like you—have raised thousands of dollars and positively impacted the CRE industry, introducing many females to commercial real estate and the career opportunities available to them.

I hope you will join me in this challenge for 2016! Once again, we’ve accepted the Chapter Challenge and will be looking to you—our members—to help us reach our goal of 50% of CREW Northern Virginia members donating to CREW Foundation. No amount is too small. It all adds up to make a BIG difference (thank you).

CREW Northern Virginia will donate $1,000 as a chapter;
100% of the members of the Board of Directors of CREW Northern Virginia will make a personal donation to CREW Foundation;
50% of CREW Northern Virginia members will donate to CREW Foundation. And we’ve made it easy for you! If you attend a CREW NoVA event this year, you can donate as you sign up!
