What's your current position?
Noelle Sharbaugh is a Managing Director of Real Estate for Greystar in the company’s Mid-Atlantic region, handling operations in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. In all, this totals more than 50 properties, almost 15,000 units, and more than 400 employees to support her 30-plus clients. Her current role includes overseeing property operations, new business development, and leading a team of directors and regional property managers to support both Greystar owned and third-party owned assets. Additionally, she represents Greystar as the East Coast luxury living representative for their owned and managed assets in that category. Noelle’s experience includes predevelopment, new construction lease ups, high-rise, mid-rise, garden, senior living, renovations, and mixed-use projects, resulting in a wide range of knowledge on all aspects of property management. She has specialized in high-rise lease-up properties in Class A markets.
What is the history of your career?
As a native Washingtonian, with more than 16 years in the multifamily industry, Noelle started her career in 2001 as a Leasing Manager with Charles E. Smith (now JBG Smith). Noelle’s operational rise in the multifamily industry led her to various site positions at Charles E. Smith where she eventually worked her way up to be a Senior Community Manager for a large mixed-use asset in Crystal City. She later diversified her experience to include student housing, where she was District Manager for Ambling Management, at George Washington University overseeing a student portfolio in Washington, DC. In 2008, Noelle then parlayed her experience into a role of Regional Property Manager at Bozzuto. While with Bozzuto, Noelle naturally advanced to the role of Regional Vice President where she worked on a complex mixed-use portfolio in the DC market. Noelle is grateful for the experiences she had there, which positioned her to bring her many skills to the largest property management firm nationally, and quickly-expanding international firm, Greystar. Noelle joined the Greystar team in early 2016 as a Senior Director. She was then promoted in January of 2017 to Managing Director overseeing all the Mid-Atlantic operations. In July 2017, Noelle was recognized and awarded the 2017 Washington Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award, a highly prestigious award given to only 40 individuals across all industries for their professional success and in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
What attracted you to CREW NoVA?
Noelle was initially introduced to the CREW Network after joining Greystar. Greystar is highly focused on continued diversity within the organization, and is a proud premier sponsor of the CREW Network nationally. This year, as Noelle started her new leadership role as Managing Director in the Mid-Atlantic with Greystar, she has announced one of her platforms for the organization will be to continue to promote the advancement of women in real estate. During the past year, Noelle has focused on young women that are both students and recent graduates who are emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. She has been engaged in DECA program for students and emerging leaders, as well as Greystar Grad program where she has mentored and hired on new women leadership in the real estate field. Noelle hopes to continue her network at CREW NoVA and focus on business development, leadership, industry research and trends, and career outreach to others in order to continue to meet her goals for her division and the larger Greystar organization.
What woman inspires you?
Noelle is inspired by her 87 year old Grandmother Joanne Sharbaugh. Joanne, in partnership with her husband Raymond Sharbaugh and 5 children, has been running a successful family owned business for more than 50 years. Today at 87 she is still as strong a woman as she was 50 years ago. Every day she gets up and goes to work to run the business and finds ways to continue to inspire her family and friends. She recently announced she may start a new business making the secret family Italian Pizzelle recipe to sell to local bakeries and potentially online for larger distribution. Women who continue to foster the entrepreneur spirit at 87 are a force to be reckoned with, and an inspiration for Noelle as she continues to drive forward in her personal career.
What's your family like?
Noelle lives with her husband of 10 years, Andy Hoyle ,and 12-year-old dog Cherry Blossom in Reston, VA. She is a native Washingtonian, growing up in Bethesda, MD, later moving to DC, then Arlington, and now Reston where she has lived for the past 5 years. She is the oldest of 4 siblings all of whom live in Bethesda now, and part of a large Italian family. In her personal time she enjoys entertaining and harnessing her inner Martha Stewart with a series of dinner parties and themed events, traveling to the beach and warm weather places to find her inner Zen, and in her free time is an avid SoulCycle rider to get her adrenaline rush.
Do you have a fun fact about yourself?
Noelle is dedicated to continuing personal growth as well as professional development, and is deeply involved in giving back. Last year she undertook a 365-day gratitude commitment that she shared through all her social media platforms using the hashtag #365DaysofGratitude. By sharing her own appreciations and opportunities for personal growth, with the goal of inspiring others to do the same and spread the word, she was able to have a large impact on her peers, friends and family. This year she has started a new challenge of giving back using the hashtag #365GiveBack, where she donates/contributes to a new charity, organization or cause each day in an effort to promote giving and the power of charitable contributions.
