April 9, 2018

Describe your current position.
In my current position as Corporate Marketing Director at Peterson Companies, I serve as a strategic marketing & communication resource to our Corporate, Retail, Office and Residential departments. My responsibilities include managing the design and development of dynamic marketing presentations (branding, storytelling brochures, websites, video, etc.), implementing B2B marketing campaigns and directing all facets of planning, logistics, and execution of large-scale industry events (i.e., groundbreaking events, broker events and ICSC shows).

Describe your career history (years of experience, previous employment, etc.).
After graduating from the University of Maryland College Park in 2003, I began my career in the commercial real estate industry working at JBG Rosenfeld Retail (now JBG Smith) in Chevy Chase, MD. I completed my Masters of Science in Marketing Management from the University of Maryland in 2011 and joined Peterson Companies as the Corporate Marketing Director in 2012.

What attracted you to CREW NoVA?
I first heard about CREW from a friend who was a member of the DC Chapter.  I attended a few CREW NoVA events last year and was impressed with the organization and group of like-minded individuals. Since becoming a member, I have joined the Communications Committee. I’m looking forward to attending more networking events and meeting more members.

Name a woman that inspires you and why.
So many women have inspired me over the years. Maya Angelou and the many adversities she overcame to be the most successful writer and advocate for civil and women’s rights, Michelle Obama and her many accomplishments preceding to being FLOTUS and my godmother for being the successful lawyer I had aspired to be as a little girl. But it would be remiss of me not to share how my mother has been the first woman to inspire and motivate me. She taught me to be strong, confident and independent. My mother taught me how to have faith, be respectful and showed me the true meaning of unconditional love. She’s always been my biggest supporter, someone I can always count on.

Tell us about your family.
My parents are from New York and North Carolina and were the first of their siblings to migrate to suburban Maryland where I lived most of my life. I look at my parent's decision to move to Maryland as the great compromise of city and country living. “The best of both worlds.” And over the last 30 years, many of my extended family members have moved within the area. We’re a close-knit family who values unity and family traditions. Family over everything!

Fun fact
I love Pilates! Before Pilates, boxing was my primary form of exercise. “I trained as a pro without taking a blow.” I eventually had to retire after suffering from an injury unrelated to boxing. I started doing Pilates eight years ago, and now it’s my go-to for a clear mind and healthy body. Pilates is my happy hour!
