Director, MS Real Estate Development Program
Kat Grimsley is the Director of the MS Real Estate Development program at George Mason University. She is responsible for all aspects of the program including faculty, staff, student and curriculum management; community building; and strategic development. Dr. Grimsley also supports the commercial real estate industry through outreach and special research projects. Currently, she serves as a Distinguished Fellow of the NAIOP Research Foundation and an advisory board member and Vice-Chair of the United Nation's Economic Commission for Europe's Real Estate Markets Advisory Group under the Committee of Urban Development, Housing, and Land Management.
Dr. Grimsley began her career in the private sector doing market research, financial modeling, and transactional work with commercial real estate in Washington, D.C. She later transitioned to a global focus with the US Department of State managing an international portfolio of development projects in 25 countries. Specifically, Dr. Grimsley led multidisciplinary technical teams; represented the US Government in political, transactional and contract negotiations; and managed inter-agency coordination and consensus building. She holds a BS in Finance (hons) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an MS in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Land Economics from the University of Cambridge in England.
